Bright Lights, Other City

If you're in a band, I encourage you to add in a light show to your live act. I know it's a little late-'70s, but trust me. Ryan took me to Sound Tribe Sector Nine last week and I was quite taken with them. And their light show. It made the whole dreadlocked crowd thing go down a little easier. The next evening, I braved snow for Interpol and it brought me back to a show of theirs I caught before I left New York. Sold out Bowery Ballroom, everyone checking out Paul Banks...oh the fun. And they've since incorporated a light show into the mix. I'm telling you, tipping point.

Also on the tipping point tip: when did the mid-'90s come back? Ryan and I were chilling at The Pig before the STS9 show (a bar! with coffee!) last week, and their playlist was not unlike mine back in the college radio days. "Father to a Sister of a Thought" and "World Cup Fever": mmm, yeah. A few days later, I was rocking out to the Halo Benders at Coffee Girls. I love this.

Since I must fill my day with more good times than usual now that we don't have cable, Theresa and I took a little jaunt to St. Louis last weekend for some special art times. The original reason for the trip was the rad Nara show at the Contemporary Art Museum. They also had a Laylah Ali show that was great. Next door, over at the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, we caught some Brancusi/Serra action. A little dry, but an amazing space. And, for kicks, we ran over to the museum over at WashU. Lotsa art, and I got some Joe's Jeans on sale. All this, and we made it back (in the rain) before midnight Saturday.
