Hello, New York!
I'm back...and older than ever! Seriously, every conversation I've had these past few days detours into "We are so old" territory at some point, and yeah, I know we're not that old, really it's just not that we're 23 anymore and able to tolerate extreme levels of liquor, nicotine, lack of sleep and god knows what else.
I'm back at the Royal Castle (aka Columbia Melrose Place, The Building Where All of My Friends Live, My Home Away from Home), thanks to the unending kindness of Danny, and life is dandy. The weather's been a little colder than I was prepared for, but I'm layering like nobody's business.
I've finally gotten a haircut (thank you, Jane Webb!) and I saw Dan for Fun With Chelsea Galleries (the Jeremy Blake show and the Pierre Huyghe exhibit at Dia, both of which were great, and the Nikki S. Lee show, which was just okay). Danny and I saw and loved Avenue Q. Mina and I had brunch and got our nails done and went on a Saturday Shopping Odyssey which netted a pair of silver ballet flats from Hollywould (sparkle magic!) and I went to a few parties so that I could talk about how old I am exactly.
Logan and I, after exhausting the old coversation, discussed routine crushes, like when you think the guy at your coffee place is really cute, and you see him every day, so it's like a pretend relationship? One that's based on your overtipping him in the tip jar? My fear is that, given my habit of running around KC in workout clothes, the punk rock Dean & Deluca salad guys think I'm either a soccer mom or have no fashion sense. Logan reassured me that "There's nothing hotter than a girl who seems really buttoned up...but is actually a wildcat." I think he growled or hissed and made little hand claws at that point. Would it be so wrong to order my spinach salad, and then hiss, Catwoman style?
I also got to see Augie, the World's Most Handsome Dog, and tons of Germans! The two have nothing to do with each other, but I did see Amanda (and her husband, and their dog) and then last night went to a Morr Music hoo-ha at the Knitting Factory with Stephen, Boris, Erik, Patrick and Jane. I think we got there about two minutes after doors opened so that we could get seats upstairs (so old). Ms. John Soda totally rocked a mid-period SY vibe, with lots of sing-talking and a basist who couldn't stop flailing. And B. Fleischmann somehow made playing from his laptop totally undorky.
I have to get a new driver's license today. Before my birthday, less than a month away, which will make me old.
